Professor David Karoly Professor David Karoly is a Professor Emeritus at the University of Melbourne and a Councillor with the Climate Council, Australia. He is an internationally recognised expert in climate change science and variability.
From 2018 to 2021, he led the Earth Systems and Climate Change Hub under the Australian Government’s National Environmental Science Program and retired from CSIRO in 2022. Between 2012 and 2017, he served on the Climate Change Authority, advising on national climate policy and emissions targets.
David contributed to multiple Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Assessment Reports (2001, 2007, 2014, and 2021) in various roles. He received the 2015 Royal Society of Victoria Medal for Scientific Excellence in Earth Sciences and was elected a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science in 2019.
Earlier, he held academic positions at the University of Melbourne and the University of Oklahoma, including the Williams Chair in Meteorology (2003–2007).
